Worship
Tithing/giving should be an act of worship. By giving, the Christian is practicing obedience to God. That obedience is a visible response to the reality that God is the source of all things. With the right attitude, giving can become worship.
Puts first things, first
The first fruits of our labor/income belong to God. This principle saturates God’s Word and is first evidenced in Genesis 4:3-4. Tithing, giving to God the first 10% of our income to the local church, is the primary, practical way we acknowledge that God is first (Proverbs 3:9,10). Regular tithers know that God can do more with 90% than they can do with 100% of their income. By giving the first portion of our income to God, we prioritize God.
Giving adds joy to life
Giving is the antidote for materialism. While tithing is giving 10% of your income to the local church, an offering is given out of the 90% of your income. Therefore, the offering is giving over and above the tithe. The Bible says that by giving generously, we are able to “take hold of the life that is truly life.” You aren’t really living unless you are freely giving. (I Timothy 6:18,19).
Giving is an eternal investment
People invest money for a variety of reasons, including wealth building and retirement funding. When a Christian tithes/gives, he is investing in the life-changing message of Jesus Christ and will reap BOTH lifelong and eternal dividends. Tithing/giving leverages money to further God’s Kingdom and results in an eternal investment.
